Despite the progress of technology and AI today, people still struggle to achieve their goals - over 90% fail.
Being high-achievers ourselves, we wondered why there wasn’t a product that could help us achieve our long-term goals. We found ourselves asking:
**"What do I need to do today to achieve my long-term goals in the future?"**
This question led to the birth of socra. We (@ed and @mike) left our engineering careers to solve this challenge. We believe that despite having endless resources at our fingertips, people need better tools to turn their dreams into reality.
In March 2023 our platform went live for the first time. We had great traction and grew to over 60,000 users. What happened next changed everything.
The initial feedback was incredible - users were planning their goals with AI in ways we'd never seen before. The plans were detailed and actionable. But then something familiar started happening: just like in real life, people would eventually give up. They'd drift away from their goals, lose momentum, get stuck.
That's when it hit us: people don't just need better planning tools or another AI telling them what to do. And they definitely don't pursue meaningful goals alone - that's not how we're wired as humans. What they needed was an AI companion to work hand-in-hand with them through the journey, alongside other humans who could support and amplify their efforts.
Mike (my husband and co-founder) and I faced a tough decision: continue iterating on what we had, or rebuild everything from scratch to create what our users truly needed. We chose the harder path. Nearly a million lines of code, deleted. Our savings, invested. Our lives, completely devoted to this mission. The hardest part was watching our traction die and choosing to do nothing about it because we had to focus all our energy on rebuilding our platform.
In 2024, we worked every single day – Sundays, holidays, birthdays, Christmas, rain or shine. No breaks, no shortcuts, no Plan B. Just two humans, obsessed with creating something revolutionary. That was, by far, the hardest year of our lives. What emerged wasn't just another productivity tool - it became the world's first true Human+AI Co-Operating System.
The initial feedback for socra v1.0 has been amazing. Now, we're not just achieving goals - we are experiencing a new way of thinking and working. Whether writing a thesis, managing complex projects, or tackling personal challenges, everything flows together naturally. The theoretical and practical aspects of progress finally merged into one seamless experience. As one user put it: "It's like having a friend, a coach, a therapist, and an assistant all blended together."
What we built is something far beyond our original vision: an operating system where humans and AI truly collaborate, where knowledge creation and action flow together naturally, and where communities can form around shared goals and challenges.
