Socra does not find any attached documents to read
Socra cannot find the PDF documents I am attaching and is asking to review them. File size is approximately 1.5 MB.
I uploaded them using the attach icon.
Socra currently does not support reading or processing PDF documents directly, despite allowing users to upload PDFs via the attach icon and confirming successful uploads. This limitation caused confusion when Socra was unable to find or analyze attached PDFs, leading users to believe it was a bug in the system.
After investigation and user reporting, it became clear that the inability to access PDF content is a missing feature rather than a technical failure. The upload confirmation refers only to successful file transfer, not to Socra’s ability to parse or interpret the file contents.
As a practical interim solution, users can take screenshots of PDF pages and upload these images instead, since Socra can process image-based inputs. This workaround, while suboptimal, enables document analysis until native PDF support is implemented.
PDF reading capability is actively on Socra’s development roadmap. Updates will be communicated once the feature is released, shifting this issue from a bug report to a formal feature request.
---
**Key insights and learnings:**
- **Upload confirmation ≠ content accessibility:** Successful file upload does not guarantee Socra can read or analyze that file type.
- **Feature gaps can masquerade as bugs:** Initial troubleshooting treated this as a system bug, but it was a missing feature, underscoring the importance of clear product capability communication.
- **Workaround leveraging existing capabilities:** Using screenshots leverages Socra’s image processing strengths, providing an immediate, usable alternative.
- **Clear communication and status updates** are critical to managing user expectations and support workflows.
- **Process refinement:** The issue was correctly reclassified from bug (`inwork`) to feature request (`Suggest Feature`), improving organizational clarity and prioritization.

**What’s next:**
- Prioritize PDF reading capability development.
- Communicate roadmap milestones and feature releases to users.
- Consider enhancing attachment feedback to clarify unsupported file types upfront.
- Explore expanding Socra’s document processing beyond images and PDFs to future formats.
